A note from Dr. Amara
I left a tenured lectureship at UCLA in 2014 because I could no longer write about the feminine Taoist lineage without living inside it. What began as a single women's circle in my San Francisco living room has become the work you are reading about now: a method, a school, a small but uncompromising community of women who treat their bodies as the first text rather than the last resort.
Private coaching is the deepest door into that work. It is not therapy, though many of my clients are also in therapy. It is not life-coaching in the calendared, optimized sense. It is a sustained, one-to-one container in which we work somatically — through breath, attention, ritual, and the slow Taoist practices I have been studying for eighteen years — until what has been held at arm's length finally lands.
If you are reading this on the other side of a long Tuesday, having quietly known for some time that the next layer of your life is not a strategy problem but an embodiment problem — then welcome. I wrote this page for you.
